Musings : German New Medicine

Overview & Philosophical Grounding

German New Medicine (GNM) is a psycho-biological model of health that proposes that every physical symptom or disease is initiated by an unanticipated emotional shock—what Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer called a biological conflict. These “conflict shocks” affect the psyche, brain, and organ systems simultaneously, forming what GNM describes as the Iron Rule of Cancer and extending into a full system of somatic decoding.

GNM does not see disease as a malfunction—but as a meaningful, intelligent response of the body to unresolved trauma. The body enacts temporary biological programs in service of adaptation and healing. It’s not what’s wrong with you—it’s what happened to you, and how your body responded to help you survive.

In the metaphysical and somatic healing journey, GNM offers deep compassion for the body’s symptoms. It reframes illness not as an enemy to be fought, but as a messenger to be heard. As you unearth and resolve the conflict shock, the body enters healing phase—often with fatigue, inflammation, or discharge. GNM asks us to listen, not suppress.

Core Teachings & Principles

  • Every disease has a meaningful origin. Nothing is random; every symptom is traceable to a “DHS” (Dirk Hamer Syndrome—a conflict shock)

  • Healing occurs in two phases:

    1. Conflict-active phase (cold extremities, insomnia, cell growth or loss)

    2. Healing phase (warmth, inflammation, swelling, fatigue as repair begins)

  • Psyche-Brain-Organ Unity: The shock affects all three simultaneously and can be seen in specific “Hamer foci” on brain CT scans

  • Location matters. The nature of the conflict determines which organ or tissue is involved (e.g., lung = fear of death; breast = nest worry; colon = indigestible anger)

  • Laterality (handedness) affects response. The same conflict manifests differently in left- vs. right-handed people

  • Relapses and tracks occur when a reminder (sound, smell, image) reactivates an unresolved conflict

Practices, Tools & Techniques

Conflict Discovery & Resolution :

  • Journal: What shock preceded the onset of my symptom? Think in terms of shock + isolation + suddenness

  • Revisit the time frame two weeks to a few months before symptom onset

  • Explore felt meaning (not logic)—what did the event mean to you at the level of survival?

Biological Decoding :

  • Identify conflict-active vs. healing phase using body temperature, fatigue, symptom rhythm

  • Track recurrences and environmental “triggers” (a person, place, time of year)

Supportive Healing Approaches :

  • Do not fear symptoms—they are part of healing; fear feeds conflict

  • Embrace rest, warmth, and nourishment during healing phase

  • Use somatic therapy, EMDR, breathwork, or journaling to process shock emotionally

Spiritual Integration :

  • Visualize yourself speaking to your body or brain—what is it asking of you?

  • Create ritual space to symbolically resolve or forgive the initiating event

  • Bless the organ or area of the body with light, prayer, or warm oil
